Guthrie County Hospital & Clinics is reinforcing its commitment to patient safety by enhancing its patient identification practices through a renewed awareness campaign.

While Guthrie County Hospital & Clinics already follows the best-practice standard of using two-point patient identification, this campaign is focused on ensuring consistency, awareness, and continued excellence across all departments.

To ensure that we deliver excellent quality care to every patient, every time, we will routinely check at least two identifiers to confirm your identity before administering care, treatment, or medication. This means that you will be asked many times during your admission/care journey to confirm your identity. It is not because we don’t remember who you are, but because we want to make sure that you get the medication, procedure, or care that was intended for you. This simple but vital step helps prevent medical errors and ensures each patient receives the correct care every time.

“Patient safety is always our top priority,” said Kassie Cline, Perioperative Services Manager/Clinical & Quality Shared Governance Committee Member. “We’ve been using two-point identification for years, but this campaign serves to re-emphasize its importance and make sure everyone – staff, patients, and families – understands the role it plays in quality care.”

As part of this initiative, patients may notice additional reminders and educational materials throughout the hospital, as well as staff being extra diligent when confirming identity. Guthrie County Hospital & Clinics encourages patients to actively participate by listening for and expecting these safety checks during their visits. If we haven’t done it, ask us! You are a partner in your care.

Guthrie County Hospital & Clinics safety campaign on two patient identifiers will launch on August 1st! Below is the logo for the campaign which reminds everyone to check patient identification before proceeding with any procedure or discussion of health information. We check two, just for you!
