Guthrie County Hospital is proud to announce that two of our registered nurses have been named as honorees on the 2019 list of 100 Great Iowa Nurses.

We have all met at least one outstanding nurse whose courage, competence, and commitment to patients and the nursing profession stand out above all others. Each year, the 100 Great Iowa Nurses program asks for patients, coworkers, friends, and family members to nominate an outstanding nurse for recognition. After a review process, 100 Great Iowa Nurses are honored each year at a ceremony created for the state of Iowa.

This year, Doris Terwilliger, Surgical Services Manager, and Christine Drake, Cardiac Rehabilitation Manager/Diabetes Education Manager, were both included in the list. Both were nominated by their colleagues, and will be recognized at an award ceremony on May 5 in Des Moines. Below are excerpts from each of their nomination letters.

“The truth is that over the years, Doris has demonstrated her character in showing accountability, integrity, and in advocating for our patients, and as a result, Doris has garnered respect and loyalty from many of our employees throughout our small hospital and is looked to for honest opinion.”

“Christine is an incredibly dedicated healthcare professional. She has been the sole Cardiac Rehab nurse and Diabetic Education nurse at GCH for many years. As one of the most seasoned nurses in the institution, Christine is always looking for ways to help mentor other nurses. From BLS instructor to offering advice on someone’s groceries at the grocery store, Chris never passes an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of not only her patients and families, but her colleagues, as well.”
